One of the developmental stages of childhood is something called parallel play - when two kids sit side by side, each doing their own thing. Parallel play is still one of my favourite things to do. I love working on my art while someone beside me works on something that is important to them. No conversation, just a quiet, mutual appreciation for what each of us is doing, and a shared creation of the space to do it. This painting is about that feeling - about how comforting it is to have someone you can do vulnerable and honest things alongside. It’s a fertile place.
